General
-
Field Trip is a premium guided cycling day trip company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We plan the route, the food, and the logistics. You just show up and ride.
-
We're a company of avid cyclists ourselves, so we know the pull of a long ride. Most tours include 30+ mile routes, typically three to five hours of riding, and many offer longer options. Our guides know the area inside out, so if you want to go farther than the route suggests, they can usually find a way to stretch the day.
-
Yes. Field Trip tours are built to welcome a wide range of abilities and paces. Prefer a gentler day? Choose a tour with a 20-mile option, a good fit if you're newer to cycling or just want more time to take in the scenery. E-bikes are also available for an extra boost when you need one. And with three to four guides, multiple support vans, and flexible routes, you're never stuck. Hop in a van or call it a day whenever another mile sounds like too many.
-
Supporting guests of all abilities is core to how we design every trip. Each day offers multiple route options at different activity levels, with guides and support vans on hand no matter which one you pick.
Ride solo, or ride with the group at your own pace. If you want to keep up with a stronger rider, our e-bikes give you the extra boost to handle the hills without the worry.
Go big or take it easy. The choice is always yours.
-
Yes. Guests on the same tour often have different interests and abilities, so we build in options: multiple route choices each day, with enough guides and vans to support all of them. Decide what you want to do each morning, and change your mind as the day unfolds.
-
Field Trip tours span a wide range of fitness levels. Each tour is rated easy, medium, or challenging, with daily route options on top of that: check the rating, or contact us and we'll help match you to a tour that fits your goals.
In the end, it's about what makes the day meaningful to you. That might mean pushing yourself on an epic ride, or keeping it relaxed on a gentler route. The choice is always yours.

Yes. Just let us know a kid is joining when you book, so we can bring the right equipment and support. It helps to give us a sense of their ability level too.
Day of Your Ride
-
Cycling clothes and shoes, layers for the day, and your phone for navigation. Bring ID if your tour includes a wine tasting. A small bag is welcome too. We'll stash it in the support van. No cash needed.
-
Rides go on rain or shine. We watch the forecast and make the call to cancel up to three days out if conditions look truly bad. Once a ride is underway, we don't cancel, but we will stop if things turn dangerous.
-
We provide the bikes. Choose an e-bike or a performance bike when you book. Helmets, water bottles, bike accessories, and a phone holder for navigation are included as well.
Prefer to ride your own bike? That's an option, and we'll adjust the price accordingly.
-
Every tour includes snacks and a lunch. Lunch is always a picnic spread of local, healthy options. Some tours also include a coffee stop.
-
Every tour has three to four guides. Some ride alongside you, supporting the route and pace. Others handle logistics: setting up food, running coffee stops, and cleaning up after.
-
Meeting point depends on the tour and will be posted on the tour page. Getting there is on you. All tours are loops, so you'll end up back where you parked.
-
Tour length is listed on the tour page and is an estimate. It includes pre-ride orientation (sunscreen, route overview, getting settled), any stops along the way (coffee, lunch, wine tasting), and the ride itself.
